Our last meeting of 2020 was a busy one with many announcements: no meetings on December 22nd or 29th sue to the holidays (next meeting on January 5th), possible trivia contest in January as part of a ‘cocktail party’ with food from our restaurants, and a fund raising for the Campagna Center since their Scottish Walk was canceled. Verena Anderson, a newly arrived Alexandria introduced herself and expressed the possibility of joining us later. Casey gave us some news and then as Chief Elf told us about our bell ringing for the Salvation Army Red Kettles on Saturday November 19th, including the reminder to contribute an amount equal to one hours wage if we didn’t ring. Taylor Barnes recognized a whole bunch of December birthdays before Jeanne Theismann introduced Ambassador James Gilmore as our speaker, laying out highlights of his career prior to assuming his current role as US Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) with headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The ambassador spoke from Vienna (6 hours time difference) and gave us a most interesting and illuminating speech about the roles and responsibilities of the OSCE in this time of turmoil and pandemic.
